I created The Cat Throne because of a very special cat from my childhood, a Siamese cat named Xanadu (it was the ’70s, after all!). I called her Mama Kitty, and she was my best friend growing up. Mama Kitty was smart, independent, and full of surprises—one of the biggest being that she taught herself to use the toilet! For a young girl whose chore it was to clean the litter box, this was nothing short of a miracle. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.
But as she got older, things changed. Mama Kitty started to struggle with the toilet. Balancing on that slippery, narrow seat became harder and harder for her, and it broke my heart to see her so frustrated. She didn’t want to go back to the litter box—she loved feeling clean and avoiding the mess of stepping in litter. But we didn’t have a choice. Watching her give up something that made her happy, just because there wasn’t a solution designed with her needs in mind, stayed with me.
Years later, when I found myself reminiscing about Mama Kitty, I thought, There has to be a better way. A way for cats, especially older or less agile ones, to use the toilet safely and comfortably if that’s what they prefer. That’s how the idea for The Cat Throne was born.
It became my mission to create something that could help cats like Mama Kitty—and the humans who love them. I wanted to design a solution that wasn’t just functional, but truly thoughtful: a training system that takes into account the unique needs of cats at every age and stage of life. Whether it’s a playful kitten learning the ropes, an adult cat enjoying the convenience of being litter-free, or a senior cat who needs a little extra support, The Cat Throne is here to make their lives (and yours!) better.
Mama Kitty’s story shaped everything about The Cat Throne. I like to think she’d be proud to know that her struggles inspired a product that now helps so many cats stay clean, happy, and comfortable. And for me, it’s a joy to see The Cat Throne make life easier for cat owners while honoring the incredible independence and dignity that our feline friends deserve.
Because at the end of the day, The Cat Throne isn’t just about ditching the litter box—it’s about giving our cats the best care possible, at every step of their journey.
